That same year, he began his professional journey and made his debut at the Sanderson Farms Championship. He finished T43 at the golf event. After a week, he competed at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Then, he played at the Colombia Championship and finished T2.

Burns continued his good form and played with Tiger Woods as his partner at the Honda Classic. Following that, he got entry to the Valspar Championship and finished T12. In 2018, he earned his maiden professional victory at the Savannah Golf Championship. He played exceptionally well against Roberto Castro and won over him by one stroke.

Burns has been competing in the PGA Tour since the beginning of the 2018-19 season. In 2021, he competed at the Genesis Invitational and finished third behind Max Homa and Tony Finau.
