Early Life

Noah Kahan was born in January 1997 in Strafford, Vermont. He was raised by his parents, Josh Kahan and Lauri Berkenkamp. Kahan has sung many songs dedicated to his parents, and about the struggles he went through after they divorced. Kahan grew up with three siblings in Strafford before they moved to Hanover.

Along with his family, he would return to their land in Strafford on weekends to camp. His father, who was working as an information technologist later built a house clearing the land in Strafford. Later, the Kahan family shifted back to Strafford permanently.

At that time, he was studying in high school. He completed his high school education at Hanover High School. Following that, he attended Tulane University. Noah was taught to play guitar at a very young age by his dad. At the same time, his mother would upload songs on her iPod by music artists Cat Stevens and Paul Simon. Kahan loved to listen to their songs from a young age.

Kahan started writing music when he was just eight years old. During that time, he would play songs for his mom, and in return, he would receive pretty good criticism from her. At age 19, he went on tour for the first time where he opened for German rock band, Milky Chance.

Noah signed a record deal with Republic Records in 2017. After that, he shifted to New York City. Between, he also lived in Nashville and Los Angeles. He came up with his first album, Busyhead in 2019. The song from the album, Hurt Somebody peaked in the top 30 on the Billboard Hot Rock chart.

He revealed a conclusion version of his popular album, Stick Season in late January. Kahan finally dropped the expanded album in February 2024.

Noah Kahan is currently dating Brenna Nolan. She currently works as an on-site contractor for Kahan’s charity, The Busyhead Project. Through the charity organization, Kahan and Brenda aim to raise funds to support mental health awareness and resources. Kahan himself has gone through depression and anxiety throughout his life. He also attended therapy when he was a kid.

Noah gave a hint about dating Brenda when he shared a clip of himself singing a rendition of his single, Maine on Instagram. He tagged Brenna in the video and wrote the caption, White thighs wide eyes, Brenna, for her camera work. He subsequently confirmed Brenna as his girlfriend in October 2022.
