Early Life

Nick Dunlap was born in December 2003 in Huntsville, Alabama. He was raised by his parents, Jim and Charlene Dunlap. After spending several years in Huntsville, he along with his parents moved to a new place in Greenville, South Carolina. He spent his freshman year of high school at Greenville.

When Nick moved back to Alabama, his parents arranged for him to a homeschooled facility. He discovered golf talent at a very young age at Greystone Golf & Country Club. The lead instructor of the club, Brian Speakman stated that Nick was extremely athletic, and was also a high-level football and baseball player.

Dunlap was 10 when he competed in the National Football League’s Punt, Pass, and Kick competition. There, he finished in second place. By reaching 12, he had started competing in the junior tournament. Nick recorded a win by 13 strokes at Highland Park Golf Course.

As a junior amateur, Nick competed in the Alabama State Junior event in 2018. He eventually won the title. In 2020, he appeared in the Notah Begay III National Golf Championship, where he finished at second place. Then, he appeared at the Junior Players Championship, and the Boy’s Junior PGA Championship in 2021.

That same year, he registered a victory at the Dustin Johnson Junior Championship. Not only that, he got victory at other golf events such as the American Junior Golf Association, the U.S. Junior Amateur, and the Polo Golf Junior Classic. After winning the U. S. Junior Amateur title, he was granted an exemption to the U. S. Open in 2022.

Dunlap was ranked the Number one junior golfer in the 2022 class. He has been a lifelong fan of Alabama and thus gave his commitment to join the University of Alabama. Dunlap played golf for the Alabama Crimson Tide golf team and also studied finance at Alabama University. Dunlap had also known Alabama’s golf coach, Jay Seawell since he was 10.

Unfortunately, Nick couldn’t appear in most of the games in his freshman season as he was battling with tendonitis in his left wrist. It was in March 2023 when he registered his first individual collegiate victory at the Linger Longer Invitational. Subsequently, he followed up the victory at the Northeast Amateur and the North and South Amateur.

In August 2023, he appeared at the U. S. Amateur and came out as the winner of the event. He showed his best form since the first round where he beat Gordon Sargent. In the final, he defeated Neal Shipley to claim the victory. With the win, he joined Tiger Woods to become the second golfer to win both the U. S. Amatur Championships and the U. S. Junior Amateur.

After winning the U. S. Amateur, he represented his national team at the 2023 Eisenhower Trophy and the 2023 Walker Cup. Fortunately, the U. S. team won both titles. Meanwhile, he finished second place in the individual stroke play at the Eisenhower Trophy. In January 2024, Nick got an opportunity to appear in The American Express via a sponsor exemption.

Dunlap recorded the lowest round in the third round at The American Express after shooting a 12-under 60. With the shot, he headed into the final round.  Dunlap gave his best in the last round and won the golf event by one stroke. After winning the title, he was named the first amateur to register a win at a PGA Tour event. Not only that, he also got listed his name in the history becoming the second-youngest golfer to get a win on the PGA Tour at 20 years and 29 days old.

Even though Dunlap won his maiden PGA Tour event, he was called ineligible for the prize money. Later, the winner’s prize amount went to runner-up, Christian Bezuidenhout. Dunlap’s win at The American Express helped him get into the top 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Not long after a week after registering his maiden PGA Tour win, Nick announced that he would be turning professional. Dunlap also informed that he had taken PGA Tour membership.

Personal Life

Nick Dunlap is currently in a relationship with Isabella Ellis, a college student. When Dunlap won his first PGA Tour win, Isabella accompanied him on the Pete Dye Stadium Course. Previously, the 20-year-old golf star shared multiple pictures with his girlfriend via Instagram in November 2023. Through the Instagram photos, the pair was seen enjoying at West Palm Beach, Florida.
