Max Homa was born in November 1990 in California. He was raised by his parents, John, and Bonnie Milstein. His father works as an acting teacher in North Hollywood. Homa was selected for the Junior America’s Cup team in 2008. The following year, he competed and secured victory at the Ventura County Junior Golf Association. In 2010, he made it through to the quarterfinal of the U. S. Amateur. However, he couldn’t reach to next round after losing to An Byeong-hun.

Max registered the victory at the Silicon Valley Amateur in 2011. After two years, he played at the 2013 U. S. Open as an amateur. That same year, he registered victory at the individual 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. Then, he was included in the squad of the 2013 Walkers Cup.
