Matt Fitzpatrick was born in September 1994 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. He was raised by his parents, Susan and Russell Fitzpatrick. His dad is a retired professional football player who played for football teams Rotherham United, Chesterfield, and Sheffield United. While, his mom is a former teacher and currently working as his assistant.

As an amateur, he competed and secured victory at the 2012 Boys Amateur Championship. Then, he played at the 2013 Open Championship and won the Silver medal. He was among the two amateurs who cut the golf event finishing on 294. In 2013, he appeared in the U. S. Amateur and won the title. Following that, he received invitations to compete at the major championships, the S. Open, the Masters Tournament, and the Open Championship.

Fitzpatrick earned the Mark H McCormack medal after winning the U. S. Amateur. Then, he competed in the Walker Cup. He continued to play golf after joining the Northwestern University. However, he left the University’s team, Northwestern Wildcats after one quarter. Then, he pursued a full-time career as an amateur golfer. However, in the Autumn of 2013, he appeared in five tournaments for Northwestern. Matt played a major role in leading Northwestern being the co-champion of the Rod Myers Invitational.

Fitzpatrick turned professional in 2014 and appeared in his first professional game at the 2014 Irish Open. After that, he competed in several other competitions on the Challenge Tour and the European Tour. Matt is currently in a relationship with Katherine Gaal. He became engaged to Gaal in September 2023. Fitzpatrick and Katherine went Instagram official in January 2023. After making their relationship official, the two made their debut at the premiere of the Netflix series, Full Swing.

Fitzpatrick’s fiancé, Katherine has been working as a regional marketing manager at a software development company, Commvault. Before becoming a marketing manager, she played tennis professionally at the Bay Head Yacht Club. Katherine has always shown support to Fitzpatrick. She often joins and supports her fiancé during his game. Katherine even caddied for him at the Masters Part 3 contest in April 2023.
