Early Life

Latto was born in December 1998 in Columbus, Ohio. She was raised by her parents, Shayne Stephens, and Misti Pitts. Latto’s biological dad is African American, while her mom is white.

She used to get bullied in school due to her light skin. Later, she took the stage name Miss Mulato, as Mulatto refers to the racial classification of mixed European and African ancestry. Regarding her education, she studied at Lovejoy High School in Georgia.

Latto had decided from the beginning that she would become a rapper. She started writing her rap songs at 10 years of age. In 2016, she participated in the reality series, The Rap Game.

The series featured young aspiring rappers who would compete against each other over 8 weeks. She performed under the stage name, Miss Mulatto in the series. After winning the reality series, she got a record deal with So So Def Records. However, she turned down the offer as they didn’t give her enough money. Then, she decided to be an independent artist.

In April 2017, she released her second mixtape titled Latto Let ‘Em Know. The mixtape includes a diss song, Response Diss, directed toward rapper, Young Lyric from The Rap Game. The two had a feud in the series, which made them release diss tracks with insults.

Latto came up with her new song titled Bitch from da Soul in January 2019. After a few months, she dropped her second EP titled Big Latto. The EP includes the hit song, Bitch from da Soul. It was certified gold by the RIAA.

The hit song also peaked at 95 on the Billboard Hot 100. Latto was officially signed with RCA Records in March 2020. She dropped the promotional song titled No Hook in April.

Following that, she dropped the second promotional song titled He Say She Say in May. After two months, she released her new song, Muwop featuring rapper, Gucci Mane. Later, she appeared in Cardi B’s music video, WAP.

In August, she announced the release of her first project through RCA. Subsequently, the debut project under RCA titled Queen of da SOul was released in August 2020. The album includes a remix version of his hit songs, Muwop, and Bitch from da Soul.

In December, she came up with the extended version of Queen of da Soul. The extended version includes the song, Sex Lies featuring popular rapper, Lil Baby. Latto was announced as the Global Push Artist of the Month by MTV in February 2021.

Latto officially changed her stage name to Latto in May 2021 after the racially charged nature of her previous stage name. Soon, she dropped her new song, The Biggest. Latto dropped the Big Energy lead song from her upcoming album in September 2023. It became her highest-charting track on the Billboard Hot 100.

Then, in November, she released a follow-up song, Soufside. In March 2022, she announced her new song, Wheelie, that would be available on the market on March 11. She further confirmed that the song features rapper 21 Savage.

Personal Life

Latto is currently dating someone whose identity is kept secret. While talking to a news outlet, she revealed that she’s known her mysterious boyfriend since she was a teenager. She further claimed that it is the longest relationship she’s ever been in.

Latto also revealed that her mystery beau pays all of her bills. She was previously been linked to rappers 21 Savage, Bandit Gang Marco, and Key Glock. Latto and 21 Savage were linked together after Savage was together with her on her 22nd birthday in Puerto Rico.
