Kurt Kitayama was born in January 1993 in California. He was raised by his parents, Rumiko and Clifford. Kurt grew up with his elder brother, Daniel, who works as a professional caddie. He competed at the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship as an amateur and finished third. In 2014, he claimed victory at the Jackrabbit Invitational which was held in Nevada. Kitayama had his best ranking of 47 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He began his professional journey in 2015. After turning professional, he started playing on the Web.com Tour.
