Early Life

Honey Boo Boo was born in August 2005 in Mcintyre, Georgia. She was born to parents, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, and June “Mama June” Shannon. Boo’s mom struggled with drug addiction in 2019. As a result, her half-sister, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird came forward to take care of her.

Pumpkin was granted full custody of Boo Boo in June 2022. Along with that, June was also ordered by the court to pay $800 a month as child support to Pumpkin until Boo turns 18. Boo is the youngest daughter of her parents. She has three sisters, Anna, Jessica, and Lauryn.

Honey Boo Boo was merely five years old when she competed in a beauty pageant on TLC’s show, Toddlers & Tiaras. The TLC show featured various child pageant participants along with their family members. Then, she appeared in spin-off reality series titled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

Boo was a part of the reality series for four seasons, which appeared between 2012 and 2017. She has also made an appearance on TLC’s other show titled Mama June: From Not to Hot. The TLC series aired in 2017 and ended in 2020.

Honey Boo was named after her mother, who used to call her Honey Boo Boo Child. Later, she started getting famous with the same name. As she was getting popular with the name, the TLC makers offered her show titled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo which also features her mom, mama June, dad, Sugar Bear, and older sisters.

Though her three sisters were not much involved in pageant life, they were featured on the show for their issues including teen pregnancy. While the series received a good response, it also received considerable criticism. People criticized the series for glorifying an unhealthy lifestyle and taking advantage of the families.

The TLC series, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was canceled after the end of Season four. The series ended when Boo’s mom was seen hanging around with the man who was allegedly responsible for molesting one of her daughters. Even though the series was canceled, the TLC aired a few episodes that were supposed to air in season five. The few episodes were aired as a special titled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo: The Lost Episodes in 2017.

Besides her appearance on several TLC shows, she recorded a single titled Movin’ Up in 2015. The song also featured the singer and songwriter Adam Barta. Soon after she came up with the music video titled honey boo boo bop that sparked a craze among the people.

In 2018, she appeared as one of the participants on the dance reality series, Dancing with the Stars: Juniors. She and her dance partner, Tristan Ianiero competed until week three and were eliminated during week 4. Boo has also appeared in several other shows, such as Steve Harvey, The Wendy Williams Show, Live with Kelly and Ryan, and The Doctors.

Personal Life

Alana aka Honey Boo is currently dating Dralin Carswell. She went public with her relationship with Carswell in September 2021. Her alleged beau is known to be a college student who attended a Nashville technical school. Alana was around 16 when she started dating Dralin, who was 21 then.

Alana revealed in one of her interviews that despite the age differences, her family never interfered with her relationship. She also added only thing that matters is that her sister and Dralin’s mom approve of her relationship.

Honey Boo lost her sister, Anna on December 10, 2023. Her sister died following her battle with cancer. Alana’s mother shared the news of her daughter’s demise on Sunday via Instagram post. Anna was reportedly diagnosed with stage four cancer in January. She starred in the TLC series, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Toddlers & Tiara along with her sister, Honey Boo.
