Early Life

Drea de Matteo was born in January 1972 in New York City. She was raised by her parents, Donna and Albert. Her dad who died in March 2013 owned the furniture brand, Avery Boardman and Carlyle. Similarly, her mom is a playwriting teacher and playwright. She has also been on the faculty at HB Studio.

Regarding her education detail, she studied at Loyola School. Then, she attended the Tisch School of the Arts and held a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in film production. Drea had a plan to become a film director after completing her University education. But later she joined HB studio and studied acting.

Matteo’s career took a sudden take off when she landed a small role on a new show on HBO. The show was titled, The Sopranos, which was originally planned to last for an episode or two, but it eventually ran for seven years from 1999 to 2006.

Matteo decided to put directing on hold and went on a long ride as an actress. As she was getting popular for her character in the series, her character became the most integral portion by reaching the third season. The extreme popularity of the series opened many doors for her, and soon received the role in the John Carpenter remake titled Assault on Precinct 13.

Matteo also got a big surprise when she was finalised to play a part on the TV sitcom, Joey. According to Matteo, her role in Assault was not the most challenging she’s ever faced. She chose the role due to the series’ cast, and director, Jean-Francois, who had not seen her performance in The Sopranos.

In September 2008, she portrayed the character of Wendy Case in the action crime series, Sons of Anarchy. She made regular appearances in the series 6^th season. In the seventh and final season, she became a series regular cast member. Then, she appeared as the mother of the Bolen family, Angie Bolen in the 6^th season of the ABC’s series, Desperate Housewives.

At the end of season six, she left the show due to some personal commitments. Then, she made a guest appearance in the comedy-drama series, Californication in 2012. After that, she was seen playing the main character in the FOX comedy, Running Wilde. Then, she starred as Det. Tess Nazario in the drama series, Shades of Blue.

In February 2024, Matteo told the news outlet that she used money from OnlyFans to save her home. She went live on OnlyFans in August 2023 after she stopped getting acting work. While talking to a news outlet she revealed that OnlyFans saved her life, 100 percent. She further said that she just hoped anyone would ever find themselves in the position she was in as she had to take care of her two little kids.

OnlyFans not only saved her house but also helped her to start up and finance a streetwear brand, Ultrafree. Matteo revealed that she had around $10 bank balance. She was able to make enough money within five minutes of opening an account in OnlyFans that helped her to pay back Compass real estate.

Matteo stopped getting work over the last few years after she stood against COVID-19 vaccine mandates. She is currently engaged to Michael Devin, Whitesnake bass guitarist.
