Early Life

Chris Kirk was born in May 1985 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was raised by his parents, Kim and Gary Kirk in Woodstock, Georgia. Chris studied at Etowah High School and then attended the University of Georgia. He was a part of the University’s 2005 NCAA championship team.

As an amateur golfer, he competed in the 2006 Eisenhower Trophy representing the United States. He showed his best form in the golf event having the second-lowest individual score. In 2007, he received the annual prize, the Ben Hogan Award. That same year, he competed in the 2007 Walker Cup.

Kirk started playing as a professional golfer after the 2007 Walker Cup. The following year, he competed on the Nationwide Tour. That same year, he played at the Knoxville Open and finished as a runner-up. He played in the Nationwide Tour events for three seasons until 2010.

Chris secured his maiden Nationwide Tour title at the Fort Smith Classic in June 2010. Soon in August, he got his second Nationwide Tour win at the Knoxville News Sentinel Open. Kirk earned his 2011 PGA Tour card finishing second on the Nationwide Tour money list.

In April 2011, he appeared at the Shell Houston Open as a PGA Tour rookie. Unfortunately, he could not win the title and finished second along with Phil Mickelson. Kirk registered his first PGA tour win at the Viking Classic. Following the victory, he secured a place for his PGA Tour debut season at the PGA Championship.

At the end of the 2011 season, he finished 42nd in the FedEx Cup standings. With that, he was able to retain his card for the upcoming season. Kirk appeared in 27 events in 2012, where he had four top-10 finishes. His best result came at the RBC Canadian Open, where he finished T-4.

Kirk had a solid season in 2013 where he recorded 3 top-10 finishes. He also finished in second place at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Kirk registered his second PGA Tour victory at the McGladrey Classic. After the victory, he secured his place for his first Masters at the Viking Classic.

Chris earned his third PGA Tour win at the Deutsche Bank Championship. He continued his good form and finished fourth at The Tour Championship. At the end of the season, he finished in second place on the FedEx Cup standings winning 3 million dollars. Kirk got his fourth PGA Tour win at the Crowne Plaza Invitational in 2015. After the victory, he moved to his career-high ranking of 16 in the world rankings.

Unfortunately, he broke his hand after securing his fourth PGA Tour title. In 2015, he returned to compete at the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Kirk appeared at the 2015 Presidents Cup, where he got the victory in singles but lost 2 four fourball matches.

Kirn had his worst PGA Tour season experience in the 2017 season where he finished 92nd in the FedEx Cup. He improved his form in the 2018 season and finished in 66th place in the FedEx Cup. Kirk registered his fifth PGA Tour win at The Honda Classic in February 2023. His sixth PGA Tour victory came at The Sentry in January 2024.

Chris Kirk has been married to his wife Tahnee since 2009. Together, they share three sons, Sawyer, Foster, and Wilder. He met Tahnee first time in 2008 at a Blueberry farm. Tahnee has always supported him during his struggling days. She helped him to get over depression and alcoholism in 2019.
