Brian Harman was born in January 1987 in Savannah, Georgia. He was raised by his parents, Eric and Savannah. His dad is a doctor of Medical Dentistry, and his mom is a chemist. Regarding his education, he studied at the University of Georgia.

As an amateur, he won at the 2005 NCAA Preview. The following year, he won the 2006 Isleworth Invitational. Harman also received the yearly award three times for the highest Grade Point Average. In 2003, he secured a win at the U. S. Junior Amateur. Then, he won the 2005 Players Amateur and the 2007 Porter Cup.

Harman turned professional in 2009 and got his first professional win at the Manor Classic. In 2010, he competed in three Nationwide Tour events. He showed his best form at the Stadion Athens Classic finishing at T-18th. Then, he got a chance to compete at the 2012 Players Championship when D. A. Points took his name back before his tee time. In round two, he played alongside Bud Cauley and Ryan Moore. In the end, he was able to cut finishing T51.

Brian appeared in his first major tournament at the 2012 U. S. Open. He registered his first PGA Tour victory at the 2014 John Deere Classic. The following year, he went on to miss the playoff at the Travelers championship. He finished in third place at the event. In May 2017, he competed at the Wells Fargo Championship and secured his second PGA Tour victory.

In 2017, he appeared in the U. S. Open and reached the final round. At the golf event, he finished for second place just 4 strokes behind winner Brooks Koepka. Then, he appeared at the World Wide Technology Championship, and finished 4 strokes behind winner, Russell Henley. It turned out as the best finish on the PGA Tour for more than 5 years. Harman continued his good form and finished second at the RSM Classic.

Brian registered a win at the Open Championship in July 2023. It was his first major championship title. With the victory, he joined Phil Mickelson, and Bob Charles being the third left-handed Open champion to win the title. Harman competed in the Ryder Cup in September 2023. However, the U. S. team was defeated by the European team with a score of 16.5-11.5. Harman also lost in his Sunday singles match over Tyrrell Hatton.

Harman appeared in over 18 tournaments in 2023, where he had just three top-10 finishes. He finished tied for second place in the Travelers Championship, which was his best performance in 2023. Surprisingly, in 2023, he was not able to cut in 8 out of 18 tournaments. Matt also missed the cut at the PGA Championship and the Masters.

Brian Harman has been married to his wife, Kelly Van Slyke since December 2014. They dated for several years before deciding to exchange wedding vows. The pair originally planned to marry in November, but, they had to postpone their marriage due to a football match between Auburn, and Georgia. They thought most of the guests would attend the match rather than not attending their wedding.

Harman and Kelly became parents for the first time in June 2016. They named their first kid, Copper Marie. In 2019, the couple announced that they had become the parents of their second kid, Walter. Kelly is currently working as a radiation therapist. Previously, she served at Pilates Loft as a Pilates instructor.
